Workshop "policies and practices to engage with building users in creating well-being and sustainable living environment in Vietnamese cities"

On April 20, 2022, the Workshop on "Policies and practices to engage with building users in creating well-being and sustainable living environment in Vietnamese cities" was jointly organized at Sheraton Hotel by Competence Centre for Sustainable Building in Vietnam (CCSB-VN), Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE), Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Institute (KAS) and Hamburg University - Germany.

Overview of the conference

The seminar attracted the participation of nearly 100 online and in-person attendees from the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Research Institutes, Associations and Universities across the country.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Civil Engineering thanked Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Institute (KAS) for trusting and sponsoring Competence Centre for Sustainable Building in Vietnam (CCSB-VN) to implement HOPE project. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Giang said that the topic of the seminar was very necessary for cities which were growing rapidly both in terms of population and construction activities in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular. He hoped that the HOPE Project and the CCSB-VN would be a place for experts to exchange and share experiences to spread the philosophy of "health-oriented policies and sustainable building practices to promote well-being and green urban governance" to the whole society.

Chief Representative of KAS Institute in Vietnam - Mr. Florian Constantin Feyerabend expressed his view that in the context of global climate change and recent COVID-19 pandemic, awareness and understanding of policy and practice innovation needed to be enhanced. The HOPE project would bring policy makers, researchers and students closer together. He hoped the long-term strategic partnership between KAS Institute and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering would be more developed in the coming years.

The conference was presented with 3 main themes:
- Promoting healthy and sustainable urban environment: challenges and solutions
- Healthy cities associated with sustainable development goals
- Public space improvement practices with the community
After that, there was a very lively discussion session of 3 bridge points: Vietnam, Germany and Switzerland among speakers, experts and attendees.
